?With the Academy Model in RPS 205 high schools
requiring students to choose a career pathway of interest, one of the
benchmarks is to provide juniors with job shadowing experiences. The idea
behind these job shadows is to give students a better idea of what exactly
their career path entails so they can determine if it’s truly a career they
want to pursue following graduation.
The focus of the Academies is to promote college
and career readiness skills. RPS 205 Academy Coaches take steps towards
initiating opportunities that align with that focus, whether it be career
expos, college visits, guest speakers, academic competitions or job shadows. We
want to make sure we are extending these same opportunities to all students,
including those with special needs.
In March students with special needs from the PLUS
Program at East High School experienced a day in the life of a mobile dog groomer,
Natalie Ainsworth. Natalie is the proud owner of Red Curlz Mobile Grooming.
During this grooming job shadow, students received a background on how Natalie
got her start working with dogs. Natalie shared how she decided to start her
own business and the inspiration behind her business name/logo. She showed
students the ins and outs of how the devices and tools in the van work. The
most fun for students was when they got to experience grooming a dog firsthand!
This job shadow is just one of the many experiences
we hope to provide in the future for our students with special needs. Our goal
is to continue to create moments for this population of students to expose them
to a variety of job opportunities. These experiences will allow students to
work on further building their skill sets across multiple settings, as well as
reflect on where their interests truly fall. The more we get our students out
into the community, the more we are preparing them for success in the real

Auburn High School officials announced this week that assistant girls basketball coach Taylor Griffin will take over as head coach for the 2020-21 season, pending approval from the Rockford School Board.
Virtual graduation ceremonies are scheduled for each high school.
Work completed after March 13 can only improve a student’s grade and boost a student’s final semester grade.
We'd like to lay out expectations for our students – and what you can expect from teachers – during this unprecedented extended closure.
